Lucien Moolenaar

Lucien Moolenaar is a senior corporate finance and private equity lawyer with blue chip experience in London, New York and internationally. He is a co-founder and Managing Partner of Anthem Advisory, an independent strategy and legal consulting firm based in London.


Board Experience

Lucien serves as Vice Chair and Independent Non-Executive Director of Emerging Africa Capital Advisory, the investment banking arm of Emerging Capital Africa Group, which provides integrated investment banking, asset management, and trustee services across Africa. In addition, he is a member of the Group's Risk Management and Compliance Committee.

While at Renaissance Capital, Lucien served as Company Secretary of the FCA regulated investment bank, Executive Director of several subsidiaries, and a member of the Group Risk Committee and Group Audit Committee, providing strategic oversight and advice across several business lines.


International Private Practice

Lucien practiced law at the law firms Sullivan & Cromwell and Rogers & Wells, and he has extensive experience advising investment banks, fund managers, corporate clients and private investors on capital markets transactions in the UK and EMEA.


General Counsel

Lucien also spent six years in senior leadership positions at Renaissance Capital, the emerging markets investment bank based in London. As Executive Director and Head of Legal for Africa & New Markets, Lucien helped develop and execute the firm’s strategy and its expansion to seven countries in EMEA, and he managed the legal and compliance teams in those regions. He also provided strategic counsel on complex restructuring transactions involving various businesses within the Renaissance Group.

Before joining Renaissance Capital, Lucien was Head of Equity Capital Markets Legal with Merrill Lynch in London and General Counsel of Merrill Lynch South Africa.


Fintech

Lucien was also a Co-Founder and Director of Emerging Crowd, the London based fintech firm focusing on emerging markets. European FinTech Top 100 winner in 2016, the firm advised and raised capital for SMEs in the UK, Africa and Asia.


Qualifications

Lucien graduated from Harvard University and Fordham Law School and is a member of the New York Bar.
